Samantha Schimmel is a third year medical student at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa Florida. She graduated with a B.A. in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University in 2021.
Samantha has a passion for neurosurgery, and her current research focuses on identifying factors associated with patient moribidity following spine surgery. Her research ("Is traditional minimally invasive decompression inferior to endoscopic decompression regarding hospital length of stay" and "Cutting Back on Cuts: Can Endoscopic Spine Surgery Reduce Chronic Opioid Use?") aims to clarify whether certain demographic or operative characteristics contribute to delayed recovery and prolonged opioid use.
