Simon J. Archibald. PhD. serves as Chief Scientist at Integra LifeSciences. He is the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, and he also serves as the President of the Integra Foundation.
In 1997 Simon joined Integra to take the nerve guide, that he had been working on as an academic research scientist since 1980, into clinical trials and commercialization. At Integra Simon redesigned the NeuraGen manufacturing equipment and cross-linking process to reliably produce clinical material, after which Simon set up and managed the clinical team that oversaw the NeuraGen multi-center trial in Europe.
In addition to the NeuraGen project, in 1997, Simon initiated and lead the program that resulted in the development of the DuraGen dural graft matrix for which he is a co-inventor.
NeuraGen and DuraGen were the technological foundation stones for creating a new neuroscience-based business for Integra, that led to the acquisition of NeuroCare and the eventual formation of the CSS division.
Simon continues his academic interests and is a co-investigator on grant funded neuroscience research in the: UK, Ireland, Canada and the USA. He is an honorary faculty member in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering at both Drexel and Temple Universities, and he is a member of the governing board for the Advanced Materials and Bioengineering Research Centre, Trinity College, Dublin.
