Alissa Arango is a third-year medical student (MS3+) at Duke University School of Medicine, dedicated to enhancing the field of medicine by developing and implementing holistic, patient-centered healthcare practices within an ethical framework. During her research years, Alissa is pursuing a Master of Theological Studies as a Theology, Medicine, and Culture Fellow at Duke Divinity while exploring research related to spine health and health equity as a member of The Goodwin Lab. She is particularly interested in improving health outcomes for Spanish-speaking patients. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Alissa is the daughter of Cuban immigrants and a first-generation college graduate. She earned her B.S. in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida in 2019 and later obtained a Master of Biomedical Science from Duke University School of Medicine. Her research interests include enhancing medical education and improving healthcare access for vulnerable populations. In her free time, Alissa enjoys spending quality time with friends and her fiancé, watching historical dramas, and experimenting with the latest beauty trends.
